Server Logs

by photodreamz on September 8, 2010

So I had an “Interesting” encounter with an individual on community website. He became an ass really fast, and went as far as threatening me, saying he’d come to Vancouver, and so on… The great thing about technology is, I now have a record of this person thanks to my server log. I knew he was in Victoria. The conversation started over a track-able subject All I had to do was look for someone viewing information on that in the time period. With a simple IP Lookup, I now have his location. So if he as much of an ass as he sounded, and tries anything, I can deliver this information to the police and they’ve got him. If you think you are anonymous on the internet think again. Every website you visit tracks this type of information. If you know enough you can find out where the person lives.  If you are being harassed online, consult an IT tech, and have them help you find this information. It may help you later when trying to prove your case if they do something against you.

Preparing for 12X12yvr Photo Marathon

by photodreamz on September 7, 2010

I’m participating in 12X12yvr photo marathon, this coming Sunday. What is a photo marothon? Participants are each given a roll of 35mm film with 12 exposures each. The goal, shoot 12 themes in 12 hours with only 12 exposures. It’s a challenge for even seasoned photographers and should be good fun. In preparation

I shot a roll of 35mm Kodak T-Max on my 22 year old Pentax K1000. I’ve had the camera since grade 8, and was schooled in photography on it during my highschool career. I was thrilled to be shooting film again, however I am slightly disappointed with my results. 4 out of 24 images are to my liking. I need to work on my f-stop & exposure control before this weekends event. Which I’m not really sure I have time to do before Sunday. There is something to be said for the fine art of winging it though?

Hornby Island Recycles

September 6, 2010

Living in the city you tend to take things for granted. Like how easy it is to have your recycling picked up in the alley. All you have to do is sort a few cans or bottles and carry it through the back yard. Life in small communities tends to make it a bit hard [...]

Hornby Island Photos

September 6, 2010

We spent two days on Hornby Island. My birthplace and favorite spot on the planet. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been home and the Island has changed. It’s become more modern then it used to be. Hornby Island has always been one of those places that never seems to change. Probably because [...]

Photography Tip

August 28, 2010

If you know Yaletown you probably know about the strange Horse Statue behind the Yaletown Skytrain station. I honestly don’t know why they put this statue up. Its really weird and doesn’t really fit in with the area. One thing I love to do in my photography, is find new ways of looking at objects [...]

So I can add photography instructor to my resume. Well maybe? I got together with Adrian Eden a yaletown web designer and taught him some photography tricks.
