Paws for a cause Walk

Meet Bo. Bo is PacBlue Printings Mascot. Bo a friendly and adventurous Boston Terrier. She will be walking along with her owner, Chris Campbell, in Paws for a Cause on the 12th of September. PacBlue Printing is a printing sponsor of the event and a proud supporter of the BCSPCA. The funds for this event go towards our four legged friends that can’t speak for themselves and the BCSPCA.

Hipstamatic Iphone App

I’m fond of old style photos. Like those taken by a Holga or Diana Plastic camera. Which is why I recently bought a Holga. I have been meaning to try the hipstamatic Iphone App and finally got around to buying it. So far it’s worth the money. I love the affects it creats, and all on the iphone.

Had some tasty flatbread, samosa and soup at @Amuse_Events Last summer tweet-up. Sweeny’s is a cozy restaurant that offers “slow food”. After trying the samples they had, I may have to go back and try the lunch menu. Apparently they make a mean pulled pork sandwich and they have a great patio.

Iona Beach Photowalk

One of my favorite Lower Mainland activities is walking at Iona Beach on Sea Island, during low tied. There’s a blog post or two about this in the archives, but its so photographic that I thought I’d blog about it again. While Jericho beach is nice its usually crowded. Iona on the other hand has far less people. The thing I love about it is you can walk as far as you want. Up to 20km if you desired. The spit goes all the way to the mouth of the Fraser river and acts as a breaker. On the other side you have the sewage tube that stretches for 5 km. On the other a jetty that protects the Fraser River waters. The result, a bay that almost completely drains at low tide and is very walkable.

I would not recmmend swimming in the area. But if your a hiker, its a great spot. Its one of the few places I know where you can be in the city while feeling like your not. The only indicator being the buzz of airplanes landing at YVR. Below are some photos from my 15km walk which was nearly to the end of UBC. Which you can see on the other side of the Fraser. There’s also lots of wildlife there. The last time I did an Iona Beach photowalk I saw Eagles. This time I got up close and personal with a crane. I think were friends now.

Had a chance to go the Associations Summer BBQ at Trout Lake tonight. Put on by Capic – The Canadian Association of Photographers and the GDC – Graphic Designers of Canada. I am giving serious thought to joining Capic and soon. I’m at the point in my career where I feel I need to pursue my passions more.

I’m at Net2Camp Vancouver to take photos for the Vancouver Observer.

What’s that? It’s an unconference bringing together nonprofits, activists and social entrepreneurs with their friends and allies in the world of technology and communications (social media folk, developers, designers, writers, marketers….)

As someone who is a web analyst (web desinger) for a living its been an interesting experience so far. While it focus’ on non-profits you can apply the theory to private business as well.
